Friedmann limits of rotating hypersurface-homogeneous dust models

The existence of Friedmann limits is systematically investigated for all the hypersurface-homogeneous rotating dust models, presented in previous papers by this author. Limiting transitions that involve a change of the Bianchi type are included. Except for stationary models that obviously do not allow it, the Friedmann limit expected for a given Bianchi type exists in all cases. Each of the 3 Friedmann models has parents in the rotating class; the k = +1 model has just one parent class, the other two each have several parent classes. The type IX class is the one investigated in 1951 by Goedel. For each model, the consecutive limits of zero rotation, zero tilt, zero shear and spatial isotropy are explicitly calculated.Comment: 39 pages, LaTeX, 1 postscript figure. Advertising and Product Confusion: A Case Study of Grapefruit Juice

    Get PDF
Demand relationships for two closely related products -- grapefruit juice and grapefruit-juice cocktail -- were estimated from grocery-store scanner data to analyze the contention that consumer confusion exists between the two products. Results suggest confusion may exist, with grapefruit-juice advertising not only increasing the demand for grapefruit juice but also for grapefruit-juice cocktail.advertising, demand, grapefruit juice, cocktail, scanner data, Agribusiness, Consumer/Household Economics, Demand and Price Analysis,

CONDITIONAL DEMAND AND ENDOGENEITY? A CASE STUDY OF DEMAND FOR JUICE PRODUCTS

    Get PDF
The question of endogeneity of conditional expenditures, as well as prices, in conditional demand equations for justices is examined. Both conditional expenditures and prices were found to be uncorrelated with the conditional demand errors, based on Wu-Hausman tests. Conditional demand error variance/covariance estimates and corresponding Slutsky coefficient estimates were approximately proportional, as predicted by the theory of rational random behavior, further supporting independence of conditional expenditures and conditional errors for juice demands.Demand and Price Analysis,

    Studies in Aromatic Polyacetylenic Macrocycles

This work may be divided into three closely related sections. The initial problem was to elucidate the structure of an unstable, cyclic polyyne isolated in 1957 by Eglinton and Galbraith in this department. The compound has now been shown to be the cyclic 'dimer' of o-diethynylbenzene, 1,2;7,8-dibenzocyclododeca-l,7-diene-3,5,9,11-tetrayne, and is the first known highly strained acetylene. This unusual structure has been confirmed independently by the X-ray work of Grant and Speakman. It should be noted that the dimers, trimers, tetramers, etc. referred to in this work are not true polymers since two atoms of hydrogen are lost in the oxidative coupling of terminal acetylenes. However, the convenience of this terminology is so great that it has been used throughout the work reported. Transannular effects were found to occur during the reduction of the dimer and several interesting products have been isolated and identified. Second, attempts to synthesise the trimer of o-di-ethynylbenzene, 1,2:7,8:13,14-tribenzocyclooctadeca-1,7,13-triene-3,5,9,11,15,17-hexayne, were not successful, though the course of the work has indicated a possible route to it. During these attempts an unexpected reaction of bromophenyl acetylenes with amines was observed, and some of the products obtained were identified. Finally, a further strained acetylene, the cyclic tetramer of o-diethynylbenzene, 1,2:7,8:13,14:19,20-tetra-benzocyclotetracosa-1,7,13,19-tetraene-3,5,9,11,15,17,21,23-octayne, has been synthesised by an unequivocal route, and its structure verified. Ultraviolet spectra for a hitherto unknown series of aromatic polyynes are presented

Effects of hemodialysis on circulating adrenomedullin concentrations in patients with end-stage renal disease

    Get PDF
To characterize the determinants of circulating levels of adrenomedullin (AM), the plasma levels of this peptide were measured in 58 patients with end-stage renal disease on hemodialysis, Predialysis plasma levels of AM were more than twice as high in patients on hemodialysis as compared to controls. In hemodialysis patients with heart failure (NYHA classes II-IV) or hypertensive HD patients plasma levels of AM were significantly higher than in patients with end-stage renal disease only. Plasma levels of AM were clot altered immediately by hemodialysis but decreased significantly 14-20 h after hemodialysis, AM plasma levels before hemodialysis and 14-20 h after hemodialysis were correlated with the corresponding mean arterial pressure

Biography of Madame M. C. Cazier

This paper is a biography of Madame M. C. Cazier. Madame Cazier, also known as Maryann C. Cazier, had an important role as citizen of Savannah during the period of the Civil War. Although there is little information on her before this period, it is apparent that she played an important part in society as a “physician” and humanitarian to the soldiers of the Civil War. Madame Cazier, from my research and my opinion, was very well respected and was an intelligent woman to be in the position of Lady Manager at the Bartow Hospital.https://digitalcommons.georgiasouthern.edu/sav-bios-lane/1031/thumbnail.jp
